Who: Mai [livejournal.com profile] sobooored and Zuko [livejournal.com profile] soburned
What: The two not-so-lovebirds kissing under the mistletoe.
When: TOMORROW? :D
Where: In Zuko's trashed room.
Rating: TV Y7 LOL

"Wooowww, your sister really did a number on this place, huh?" Mai stood at the threshold of where Zuko's door once was, smirking and leaning against the frame, glancing over the destroyed room. "You think this place would have fixed it up by now."

Okay, yes. This was a bit stalkery of her. Mai, as apathetic and non-chalant as she could be, couldn't seem to let this go about Zuko, and it was driving her crazy. Was it because they had no absolute resolution? Was it because she wanted to strangle him? She didn't have any answers, herself, but she was bored and looking for something to entertain her. And why should she respect Zuko's wishes not to see her?

"So you got your butt kicked."

Zuko shut his journal, not bothering to look up at Mai. He dusted the ash off of the cover of his journal with his hand, regretting the fact that he hadn’t blocked the doorway. Thankfully, the atmosphere wasn’t as awkward as he thought it would be if he actually met up with Mai and he didn’t feel all that uncomfortable.

“It was the watertribe girl,” he muttered, “and the Avatar, also. I’ll fix it up when I feel like it”

He looked up, the corners of his mouth pulling back into a frown as he glared up at her. He shoved the journal to the side, getting up to stand, dusting some ash off of the front of his legs as he did so. He squared his shoulders, crossing his arms.

“Why are you here?” He asked bluntly. He refused to talk about his sister.

“You’d take it as sarcasm.” Zuko edged away slightly, unsure of what Mai was going to do. He trusted her to some extent, yes, especially after his conversation with her, but she was still part of Azula’s posse.

He stared at her hand as she showed him the origami turtleduck, his normal eye widening. He stood there for a while, dumbfounded by her gesture. Zuko remembered those times when he had showered her with gifts and the times where she refused some (most) of them. Each time she had refused one of his gifts, he got angry and slightly hurt. He had the perfect opportunity to let her experience those feelings and although he may be an idiot, he wasn’t that big of a jerk. Slowly, he reached out to retrieve the gift and brought it back to stare at it some more.

“Uh, thanks.” He struggled to smile at her, not wanting to lead her on. He still hadn’t built up the courage to tell her about his loss.

Zuko watched Mai in confusion, oblivious to her girly actions. He was actually quite impressed with the origami she made, but then again, anything made by Mai’s bare hands and effort would impress Zuko. Zuko paused for only a second before taking a step forward, his arm extended toward her.

“Wait,” he called out to her, “well, I uh.” He paused, smiling to himself as if remembering an inside joke. “Don’t hate it.”

Zuko shrugged a bit, the muscles in his face relaxing, making it easier to smile at her.

Zuko felt the pang of guilt as Mai turned to smile back at him. He knew she still had feelings for him and the fact that he couldn’t return those feelings back upset him. He wanted to love her, he really did. Having that special someone was the most gratifying, awesome feeling in the world. Now that he had lost that feeling for that special person, all he able to do was care for her as a friend, and only a friend. He still had no clue how an inanimate object like a castle was able to take a feeling as strong as that away.

But even if he still had feelings for her, as long as she was with Azula, he could never be with her. His place was with the Avatar’s now, and would always be until they brought the Fire Lord down. He had always seen the good inside Mai, and desperately hoped that she would be able to change like him. He didn’t want to see her fall with his sister and his father.

He averted his gaze, and covered it up by making it seem like he was glancing around the room.

"I'm not a dork," he said defensively.

“You sure?” He set the origami turtleduck on top of the dresser, the only clean spot of the room. “You’ll get dirty.”

“I’m sure you’ll need to,” Zuko mumbled to himself as he crouched beside her. “I guess we use our hands?”

Zuko scooped up a pile of ash in his hands, glancing up at her as she looked up above his head. He followed her gaze and rose his only eyebrow in surprise as he spotted the plant. “What is that?”

He didn’t remember seeing that a minute ago. He looked back at Mai, letting the pile of ash fall in between the cracks of his fingers as the overwhelming urge to kiss her hit him.

Zuko leaned forward, but also felt the sudden rush of cool air brush against the skin of his neck, making the hairs there stand on end. He shuddered, shutting his eyes, not expecting Mai to pull him forward into a kiss.

Like any other teenage boy whose life was currently run by his hormones, Zuko did not resist her, also making strange noises that teenagers made when they made-out. It didn’t take long for Zuko to come to his senses, his mind telling him that what he was doing was wrong. Zuko pushed her away gently, but firmly, ending the kiss as fast as it had started.

“I’m sorry,” he apologized. Instinctively, he glanced up to see if the strange plant was still there, which it wasn’t.

Zuko had no time to react as she pushed him down, the only word he could utter was “ugh”. He felt the bed give in to their weight and heard the cracking sounds of the brittle wood splitting apart. He wrapped his arms around her to make sure she didn’t get much of the blow and winced as her nose collided with his chin when they hit the ground, releasing his grip on her.

“Mai.” He struggled against her, her lips only having the chance to touch his for a second before he turned his head. “Mai, stop.”

He didn’t notice that her nose was bleeding until she pulled back for a moment. His eyes widened and he brought his hand up to touch his own face, realizing that the thick substance all over his face was her blood. He immediately sat upright, a little too fast, his forehead smashing against hers by accident.

“Mai! You’re bleeding!” Way to state the obvious.
