Who: Gai [
gohardwork ] and Gaara [
noeyelinerhere ]
What: Gai training the Kazekage in taijutsu
When: Today. Every day. Forever. Today, though.
Where: SOMEWHERE IN THE WOODS
Rating: R for RADICAL HAPPY FRIEND TIME
He adjusted his footing on the limb of his hiding spot, trying to stay as hidden as possible in the leaves of the tree, thankful his jumpsuit fit in perfectly with the vibrant, various shades of green that adorned the branch, grinning and squinting his eyes just barely as he saw the Kazekage approaching their assigned training spot.
Now was the time! The time for their passions to collide in a river of tears and sweat, to feel true, blinding ecstasy through the sheer force of their bodies. This was youth, and Gai felt incredibly happy and honoured to have trained Gaara thus far. Something about the young man made Gai feel as if he was putting a piece of some larger puzzle together inside of his mind just by looking at him. He had no idea why he felt some self-professed connection to him, and pondered briefly that perhaps this was destiny calling! Not the destiny that Neji had constantly ranted on, but the youthful type, that wasn't a jerk to everyone. It was his purpose, his nindo to train Gaara to become proficient in taijutsu! Well, for now. After this he'd make his nindo to bake the best cake on earth, or to slip laxatives in Yamato's coffee or something.
He readied himself as the boy approached. He'd sneak up on him, testing his reflexes. There's no way he could see this coming with my speed, Gai thought to himself. Clenching his fists and bending his legs at the knee just a bit more, he pushed off the branch with all of his might, diving towards Gaara with his arms wide open.
"I HAVE YOU NOW!" He was going to hug that child, and there was nothing Gaara could do about it. Except, well, what he'd been doing about it the last few sessions. Sand in the face.

attackhug him after the first few tries. The solid "whump!" of a body hitting the sand that arched out from the lip of his gourd automatically was strangely loud (though to be fair, everything about the taijutsu specialist was strangely loud), and the Kazekage stopped walking so he could cross his arms over his chest and frown. He could have sworn he'd given the stipulation 'no hugs.'
Regardless, it wasn't like there was anyone at Paradisa who would be a better Taijutsu teacher, and it was oddly... something. Maybe not comforting, because for the most part it was incredibly uncomfortable, but... nice. Having someone at least try, and all. Even if he got a face full of sand in the process.
Therefore, Gaara didn't mention the fact that he'd accepted on the grounds that Gai wouldn't do what he was currently trying to do, and instead settled for letting his sand fall to the ground after he was sure all of the taijutsu instructor's momentum was gone. "Are you done?"

He jumped to his feet, clasping his hands together and bowing slightly. "Thank you, Kazekage-sama, for being punctual! I assure you, I appreciate your effort." He smiled and met Gaara's eyes, giving him a wink and outstretching his arm, the infamous thumbs-up now in Gaara's face. Gai was pretty sure the sun was directly behind him, wanting to have the perfect lighting.
"It's a beautiful day, is it not?" He crossed his arms, trying to lean back against the tree that he had dove out of. Miscalculating its distance, he just kind of...fell backwards instead, hitting the ground with a loud thump.
Now he will think you aren't cool! Gai scolded himself, trying to save face. He layed on his side and rested his chin in his hand, crossing one leg over the other and posed dramatically on the ground. "How are you?" Good, Gai-sensei! You look kind of cool! he thought proudly.

But then Gai fell over so obviously none of that was relevant any longer.
He might never grow accustomed to this training, even if he was stuck in Paradisa forever.
He briefly considered replying to the beautiful day comment, but he was not one to speak without sorting carefully through all of his words first so the opportunity passed him by. He didn't mind, he hadn't come up with anything to say anyway.
"I am fine," he ventured carefully afterwards, trying not to stare too closely at the incredibly odd picture Gai made, sprawled across the ground like he was attempting to pose for the weirdest shot ever taken, "......... and you?"

He definitely was happy. Of course, if Neji and Tenten had been there, he'd feel a bit more secure, seeing as he could not stop worrying about the two of them no matter how hard he tried. Gaara, however, was the perfect distraction. It was good to see him again, even if he had just seen him a few minutes before he had arrived at Paradisa. Just looking at him made Gai's heart swell up with joy, d'aww.
"It's a great day, the people here are so pleasant, I get to have a competition with my rival tomorrow..." Gai's grin grew (scarily) bigger as he talked excitedly and at a quick speed. The atmosphere around them began to brighten, the birds serenading the clouds with their songs, the trees swaying in the soft breeze, and a rainbow probably popping up in the background somehow.
"Best of all, though, is that I've had someone very youthful and wonderful brought into my life, to fill it with passion and purpose!" He looked over at his new student, glad they could get some pleasant small talk out of the way at first. That way, tension is alleviated during training, and nothing is too personal, and stays strictly about self-improvement.
"That's you, by the way."

The Kazekage could barely fathom it's existence, refracted light blossoming across the sky without provocation, before the tail end of the Gai's onslaught of words (something that might be considered a conversation, but almost wholly one-sided in nature) caught his attention again. He blinked slowly.
"Me?" he asked, brow furrowing. He'd never been described as youthful before... Or anything similar, to be fair, because not many people were big into throwing that word around anymore. It was mostly just a Gai and Lee thing, as far as he could tell.
Either way, it was an odd thing to consider.
He paused for awhile, before bringing his arms up to cross over his chest again. He had been trained in Taijutsu before, of course, but he'd let his skills grow incredibly rusty over the years in which they had been useless to him in the face of his superior sand control jutsus. Anywhere else it wouldn't matter, but this place had already made it clear that things could be different. This had better be worth it.
"... if you say so," he finally settled on, before unhooking the clasps that held his gourd up against his back. It would just get in the way, during physical training.

He watched Gaara take off the gourd, wondering if that effected the boy's posture at all. He'd offer up a back massage, but every time he's offered one up to another person in his life they seem to become incredibly defensive and paranoid, so Gai wanted to avoid that for now.
"Right!! So, after today's session, I will be using intense weight training with you!! We shall also run as many laps as your body can handle around the Castle. For now, though, we're going to test your offensive abilities." Gai placed his hands on his hips confidently, thinking to himself that he was glad Gaara was a very attentive person. This came from being a defensive fighter, no doubt, but it made things easier on Gai as a teacher, as Gai babbled a ton when it was time to talk, and said almost nothing when it was time to fight.
"I'm aware that your defense is some of the best around. However, sand or not, we'll also have to work on your dodging, just in case you ever come across something that can penetrate that sheild easily. You never know with shinobi these days. For now, we're going to see how hard and fast you can come at me. I'd prefer you to get as physical as possible, but you can incorporate some of your sand into your taijutsu. Everyone has their own style!" Another flashing ping, as Gai placed one hand behind his back, the other out in front of him, palm faced-inward, standing in his and Lee's trademark Gouken position.
"I expect you to absorb some techniques I will teach you as sand absorbs water."

He wasn't sure if he liked the sound of 'intense weight' lifting, or the laps thing, but he'd agreed to the training and there was no way in hell he would complain about it. He had learned early on, back when he was four or give (when the Kazekage had been training him) that it was useless to voice opinions if the teacher was adamant enough about his methods. And Gai was nothing if not an adamant man.
Anyway, he'd been asked to attack. Physically was always an awkward affair for him, being ridiculously short and all, but at least it created openings in stances that wouldn't be there were his opponent fighting someone of taller stature. Probably not with a man like Gai who had trained children, but it was still something he was naturally inclined towards taking advantage of. He ducked (not far) beneath the taijutsu specialist's outstretched arm and aimed a punch with a fist lined with sand towards his gut.

Digging the heel of his other foot into the ground, he quickly turned his own body to the side, releasing Gaara's fist and moving out of the way of his attack, thinking that was oddly cute.
In fact, Gai wanted to hug Gaara again. Right at this very moment. He'd have to practice self-control around the young man, for his body wanted what his mind knew he should not desire. Which was a hug. Yeah.
