Who: Gai [ [livejournal.com profile] gohardwork ] and Gaara [[livejournal.com profile] noeyelinerhere ]
What: Gai training the Kazekage in taijutsu
When: Today. Every day. Forever. Today, though.
Where: SOMEWHERE IN THE WOODS
Rating: R for RADICAL HAPPY FRIEND TIME

He adjusted his footing on the limb of his hiding spot, trying to stay as hidden as possible in the leaves of the tree, thankful his jumpsuit fit in perfectly with the vibrant, various shades of green that adorned the branch, grinning and squinting his eyes just barely as he saw the Kazekage approaching their assigned training spot.

Now was the time! The time for their passions to collide in a river of tears and sweat, to feel true, blinding ecstasy through the sheer force of their bodies. This was youth, and Gai felt incredibly happy and honoured to have trained Gaara thus far. Something about the young man made Gai feel as if he was putting a piece of some larger puzzle together inside of his mind just by looking at him. He had no idea why he felt some self-professed connection to him, and pondered briefly that perhaps this was destiny calling! Not the destiny that Neji had constantly ranted on, but the youthful type, that wasn't a jerk to everyone. It was his purpose, his nindo to train Gaara to become proficient in taijutsu! Well, for now. After this he'd make his nindo to bake the best cake on earth, or to slip laxatives in Yamato's coffee or something.

He readied himself as the boy approached. He'd sneak up on him, testing his reflexes. There's no way he could see this coming with my speed, Gai thought to himself. Clenching his fists and bending his legs at the knee just a bit more, he pushed off the branch with all of his might, diving towards Gaara with his arms wide open.

"I HAVE YOU NOW!" He was going to hug that child, and there was nothing Gaara could do about it. Except, well, what he'd been doing about it the last few sessions. Sand in the face.

Gaara didn't even look up at Gai's bellowing voice this time, having gotten over the initial shock of the man trying to attack hug him after the first few tries. The solid "whump!" of a body hitting the sand that arched out from the lip of his gourd automatically was strangely loud (though to be fair, everything about the taijutsu specialist was strangely loud), and the Kazekage stopped walking so he could cross his arms over his chest and frown.

He could have sworn he'd given the stipulation 'no hugs.'

Regardless, it wasn't like there was anyone at Paradisa who would be a better Taijutsu teacher, and it was oddly... something. Maybe not comforting, because for the most part it was incredibly uncomfortable, but... nice. Having someone at least try, and all. Even if he got a face full of sand in the process.

Therefore, Gaara didn't mention the fact that he'd accepted on the grounds that Gai wouldn't do what he was currently trying to do, and instead settled for letting his sand fall to the ground after he was sure all of the taijutsu instructor's momentum was gone. "Are you done?"

Gaara nodded wordlessly at Gai's praise of his punctuality, before letting his arms fall to his sides. He watched the man's flailing about, and winced slightly at the magnificent ping and flash that Gai's teeth gave when bared in a grin. The Kazekage honestly had no idea why he was being winked at, or how Gai had positioned himself just so the sun haloed his ridiculous haircut, or for what reason there was a thumb pointed defiantly skywards in his face...

But then Gai fell over so obviously none of that was relevant any longer.

He might never grow accustomed to this training, even if he was stuck in Paradisa forever.

He briefly considered replying to the beautiful day comment, but he was not one to speak without sorting carefully through all of his words first so the opportunity passed him by. He didn't mind, he hadn't come up with anything to say anyway.

"I am fine," he ventured carefully afterwards, trying not to stare too closely at the incredibly odd picture Gai made, sprawled across the ground like he was attempting to pose for the weirdest shot ever taken, "......... and you?"

Gaara was distracted by the sudden appearance of the rainbow, never having been privy to any of Gai's infamously well backlit speeches before. Lee's, while they certainly weren't lacking in gusto, hadn't gotten quite to that fevered pitch. While he had been talking to Gaara, anyway.

The Kazekage could barely fathom it's existence, refracted light blossoming across the sky without provocation, before the tail end of the Gai's onslaught of words (something that might be considered a conversation, but almost wholly one-sided in nature) caught his attention again. He blinked slowly.

"Me?" he asked, brow furrowing. He'd never been described as youthful before... Or anything similar, to be fair, because not many people were big into throwing that word around anymore. It was mostly just a Gai and Lee thing, as far as he could tell.

Either way, it was an odd thing to consider.

He paused for awhile, before bringing his arms up to cross over his chest again. He had been trained in Taijutsu before, of course, but he'd let his skills grow incredibly rusty over the years in which they had been useless to him in the face of his superior sand control jutsus. Anywhere else it wouldn't matter, but this place had already made it clear that things could be different. This had better be worth it.

"... if you say so," he finally settled on, before unhooking the clasps that held his gourd up against his back. It would just get in the way, during physical training.

Gaara frowned. When his sand absorbed water, it became too clumpy and heavy to continue wielding without expending an enormous amount of chakra per square inch of sand. He figured that wasn't exactly what Gai meant, though, so he didn't say anything about it.

He wasn't sure if he liked the sound of 'intense weight' lifting, or the laps thing, but he'd agreed to the training and there was no way in hell he would complain about it. He had learned early on, back when he was four or give (when the Kazekage had been training him) that it was useless to voice opinions if the teacher was adamant enough about his methods. And Gai was nothing if not an adamant man.

Anyway, he'd been asked to attack. Physically was always an awkward affair for him, being ridiculously short and all, but at least it created openings in stances that wouldn't be there were his opponent fighting someone of taller stature. Probably not with a man like Gai who had trained children, but it was still something he was naturally inclined towards taking advantage of. He ducked (not far) beneath the taijutsu specialist's outstretched arm and aimed a punch with a fist lined with sand towards his gut.
