Who: Patrick Murphy ([livejournal.com profile] egregiousity), Even ([livejournal.com profile] illicitsolution), Ruby ([livejournal.com profile] notsomuchakitty)
What: Shit hits the fan.
When: Shortly after this.
Where: Room 618.
Rating: R for cussin' and stuff.

Murphy was freaking out, much like he had when he'd bitten Watanuki, only with less screaming for the clinic people. He didn't think they could do anything for Even by that point. He'd wiped off most of the blood on Even's neck with the paper towels the man had been holding prior to getting bitten, and got most of it off his own mouth with the back of his sleeve. It was probably a good thing he hadn't run into anyone on the elevator, though; a panicked man with blood on his mouth carrying a larger, bloodier, unconscious man would probably had freaked out a few people.

There was a part of Murphy's brain that WASN'T freaking out, the part that was still functioning logically, that had decided that taking Even down to his own room, which was sans gorey science projects and a little less... morgueish, was the best course of action. Plus Ruby might be...

Ah, fuck. Ruby. Murphy cringed, pausing outside his door. Ruby was going to fucking freak. He was going to get an earful for this... and, adding insult to injury, Murphy could feel the beginnings of a hangover starting in the back of his head. Fuck. Bracing himself for the worst, he awkwardly opened the door with one hand, and dragged Even inside.

Ruby was sitting at her desk in her human form. Her journal was before her and her head down on her journal. The little dragon was sound asleep. She hadn't slept well for the past couple of days and after her discussion over the journal with Zelman she'd just slipped off to sleep.

Ruby was floating in a dark, velvety world of deep-hued colors. It was warm and it was safe. She was home again. Home with her boys and home with Nall. It was all okay...everything would be alright now. What a silly dream it had all been. So full of pain and worry and loneliness. Paradisa. What a silly concept.
The warmth was fleeting however. Quite suddenly there was a flash and someone was in her arms. There was blood.
Flash.

"…So…why… did you come here…?"

Ruby's breath caught in her throat and a few more tears fell. "I thought.... you needed me," she answered quietly.

Flash.

“Savemesaveme – I… I don’t want… to go yet…” he gasped as he struggled to keep grip on Ruby. “I’m… … af-"

Flash.

She pet his cheek softly as she watched his eyes dull. Something inside of her was screaming. Not again. NOT AGAIN! PLEASE don't go.
She caught his hand as it began to fall from her hair and held it there with her own.

Ruby gasped into the waking world and was assaulted by the scent of Even's blood. She didn't even look around before bursting into flames and whipping toward the source of the smell.
Despite the instinctive quickness of her reaction the sight that greeted her sleep and rage-addled brain took her a moment or two to process.
The fire in her hands and haloing her body snuffed itself out and the fiery glow in her eyes faded as she looked upon Murphy holding a bloodied Even.
Ruby blinked slowly at her friends for a few seconds before the scene registered itself in her mind. Ruby gasped softly and was in an instant next to Murphy, helping him in the door with Even. The moment the door closed, however she took Even from him in a way that left no room for protest, her confusion quite evident on her face. She ran her hand down Even's arm and swore softly under her breath, reaching up to check for a pulse.

"Fangs, wha--- what happene--"
Her question was cut off as she noticed almost simultaneously the punctures in Even's neck along with the absence of a pulse. The latter distracted her for a moment and her breath caught. Not again. How had--- No. she knew how. Ruby knew exactly how.
She trembled and looked up at Murphy with wide eyes, a glance that said so many things without a single word. Shock, hurt, How could you do this? What possessed you to do this? How could you do this to him? How could you do this to me? Why?!'
Ruby opened her mouth slightly as if she was going to say something but did nothing. Her wide eyes stung. With tears? It didn't matter yet. Her gaze remained fixed on Murphy. Why?
