[Thread] Best Babysitter in the World
Who: Kid!Kaylee (
sunshinymech) and ..Kid!Flash? (
impulsities)
What: a 4 year old babysits a 5 year old (and expects to be paid, dammit!)
When: Either the first or second day of her loss (backdating ftw!)
Where: Kaylee's room, game room, maybe Bart's room, everywhere lolz
Rating: PG? (srsly...)
Bart was excited. The moment he'd vibrated himself into Kaylee's room and saw her as a little kid, he knew it was the perfect opportunity to put all his years (or really, more like months) of being babysat to good use. And by that, it meant he had to be totally better than that.
Somehow, the 4-year-old Speedster had managed to convince Kaylee's boyfriend to let him take a spin at it, and so, at the appropriate time, he appeared, literally in a flash, at her door, knocking excitedly.
"Kaylee? It's me, Bart!!"
Best loss ever.

"Heya Bart!" she said, all excited and nearly bouncing up and down from it. Today she was going to play with Bart!
She turned back to Drizzt. "Bart's here I'm gonna go play okay buh-bye!" And with a little wave to him she was out the door and ready to go. No time to waste. They had fun things to be getting to.
no subject
"Well, whaddya wanna do first, huh?" he asked, looking down at her with a big grin on his face. "We could play video games, or eat lots of food, or... we do both at the same time! Or maybe build a fort and jump on the beds. We could always do that later, hey--!"
He grinned suddenly, bending down a bit to put his hands on his knees so he was at her eye-level. "Wanna go for a quick spin? I can run us to the game room or... wherever!" Oh yes, he was already brimming with responsibility.
no subject
And then the best one to do at the moment - getting a ride from him. Hadn't he said something about doing that before eating?
Whatever. That had been sooo long ago anyway (well, not really but for a newly kid-sized Kaylee it had been).
"Yea yea! Run!" The castle had a game room too? A tiny bit of thinking brought up a vague memory of the game room, food and DDR. Though the most she could remember of that was lights, color, music and that it was FUN. The game room meant FUN.
"Run to the game room an' ... I dunno." She gave him a huge toothy grin.

Now, Bart didn't have 'super strength' on his list of great superpowers, but for being only 5'2, he still had an alarming amount of strength. Picking a little five year old up was absolutely nothing when he'd had to sweep adults off their feet and save them from burning buildings.
Keeping one hand protectively against the back of her head, and the other simply holding her up, he took off. A few seconds later, they would be in the game room on the first floor. Any more of a distance and she might not have been able to handle it, but it should have been fine, other than a bit of a rush.
"Zoom! Okay! You wanna play some video games in here?"
no subject
Those few seconds of the ride were absolutely amazing to her. One second they were up really high in the castle and the next all the way at the bottom. She had a little bit of a head rush from it but nothing more. About a minute on her own two feet to get herself stabilized again and she'd be perfectly fine and back to running around on seemingly endless energy.
"Zoom zoom! That was fun!" She beamed at Bart. "Okay video games now!"
no subject
NOW, video games~ which one, which one. "Okay! We can play this one." he zipped over to the big screen in the room and held up a little video game box. It was a racing game. Kids loved racing games. Bart should know, he was crazy about them. "It's fun! You probably don't know what a car is cause you're from the future, but oh well. They're cool! And you can pick the color." Because clearly that was important.
"C'mere Kaylee!" he waved her over, popping the disc into the system. "I'll show you how to do it. What do you wanna snack on?" Not that he wasn't going to ask for a whole bunch of stuff anyway.
no subject
Cars? She could remember Serenity, which seemed way bigger to her at the moment. She also remembered the mule and riding on the back of it. It had four wheels like the picture on the box ... but it wasn't a 'car'. Oh well. Bart said the game was fun so that was a good enough pick for her.
She could pick the color! And she knew just what color too. "Pink! Can I have pink?" She made her way over to him as he put the disk in so it could load up.
"Ummm ... peanut butter jelly sammich! An' an' ... cookies! An' ..." She had no idea what else but maybe Bart would think of something they could drink. And more snacks. Because they needed lots of them!
no subject
Food was something he could handle. "PB & J! Nice!" He hadn't had that in forever, how could forget that American staple? "Okay, PBJ's, cookies, chips, some soda or like...ohhh..." he pursed his lips together for a minute. "Maybe juice boxes instead! 'Cause I know they don't really let me have soda because they think I'd explode or something! Totally not true cause I drink it all the time... but I don't want elf-man to get completely wigged out or anything."
He nodded. Juice boxes. Those were fun. Granted, he could finish off a whole pack of them in a few seconds... and he thought of that. "We're gonna need a lot of juice boxes."
And candy and other good stuff too. Like marshmallows.
Turning the game power on, he turned to Kaylee, offering her a controller. "This is how you drive, 'kay? Just push this little button here," he illustrated for her as he explained. "And you'll go real fast! And then move this little joystick to turn around corners and stuff. We'll do an easy course!"
no subject
She liked his food ideas ... a lot. PBJ's, cookies, chips (totally didn't matter that it was almost entirely junk food) ... and juice boxes.
"Yay juice! Juice is yummy." She giggled at the term 'elf-man'. He had used something like that before, and he had been talking to Drizzt. Well she knew he was a 'Drizzt'.
She took the offered controller and watched intently as he showed her which button would make it go real fast and that she had to move the stick thing too. Oh she could do that! She was all ready to get started but ... there was nowhere to sit except on the floor! She spotted some floor pillows and, after setting down the controller, she walked over, grabbed one and dragged it all the way back to where they were going to play games at.
Now things were okay and she plopped down on the floor pillow, picking up the controller again.
no subject
When the game started up, he went through the options while Kaylee found herself something softer to sit on. He personally didn't mind the floor. Of course, there weren't any pink cars. Sometimes you would be lucky and get some purple ones in a game, but usually it was blues, whites, reds, yellows, black. Sometimes green.
"Well I'm gonna be the red one. Which one do you want? Just move that little joystick thing again and pick, alright?"
He'd have to take this even slower than usual, but in the name of video games, it was a sacrafice he was willing to take.
no subject
Kaylee pouted ever so slightly. No pink cars. How could there not be ONE single pink car in the entire game? So Bart had the red one. She had somewhat seen how he had picked the car - move the stick thing and then hit a button.
Blue, white, red (no that was Bart's car now), yellow, green, black ... why would she want a black car anyway?
"I wannnnt ... this one," she said, fiddling with the joystick until the car she wanted popped up - a blue one.
"Okay, ready!"
no subject
"Okay, awesome! When the TV thing says 'GO', then push that button I told you about, alright?" He said, flopping down a bit further to get the uncomfortable pressure off his knees so he could 'race' efficiently.
The food would show up any minute, but until then, his attention was entirely on the TV screen, waiting with probably a little to much anticipation for the flag to send them off..
no subject
Sure enough when the race started (GO!) her little finger came down on the correct button and her car lurched forward. "Yay!" Major accomplishment right there after all.
Her steering was nowhere near the best by far as she went screeching right off the track on the first corner. "Ooopsie." Much weaving and even going in a circle once happened before she got back on track, literally, again.
No big deal though because this was colorful, loud and FUN.
no subject
"Oops! Gotta be careful!" Bart said, moving his eyes to the lower half of the screen where he saw she'd gone flying off course. He could afford to tear his eyes away for a second, so he did so. "The turns are really hard." He said sympathetically, before looking back to the screen.
It wasn't long after that when the ghosts came by carrying their junk food feast. Kaylee wasn't the only one who was going to be wired. "Yeah, candy!!" He'd totally make Kaylee eat a sandwich first, IF he weren't such a strong believer in 'Life's too short, eat dessert first'
no subject
That is until Bart said something about candy. Candy so trumped keeping her car on track so it went right off course again and slowed to a stop as she let go of the controller.
"Yaaaaay! Candy!" Oh did their feast look good, even if it'd make adults flail about because it was junk food. She hardly knew what to get first. Might as well just pile a bunch of it in front of her floor pillow and work through it. With that plan in mind she grabbed some candy, a few juiceboxes, a sandwich, some chips, and a cookie ... which didn't actually make it back to the floor pillow pile as she ate it right away.
She plopped back down on her pillow and proceeded to meticulously rip off the crusts on the sandwich. Offensive things, crusts. The juicebox gave her a bit of problems though (straw not going in right) so she held out the straw and juicebox to Bart.
"It won't go iiiin."
no subject
He leaned to one side and the other as if he were actually sitting in a race car and steering, not taking a single second until he actually passed the finish line triumphantly. Not to say he didn't get any food in between then either.
That was the beauty of superspeed, a quick zip over to the pile for a cookie or two, and then back to his controller, with hardly a wrong turn.
As soon as he finished, he tossed the controller aside for better things, grabbing a juicebox of his own. He scrunched his nose up as she offered him the stubborn box.
"These things are always so difficult, I'm serious!" he said, taking the box in hand and giving the straw a good jab. "Here you go!" he said brightly, holding it back out to her.
no subject
She looked back at the TV screen and saw Bart's red car had made it past the stripy line that meant the end of the race. Huh. "We gonna race again? I won't drop the thingy again!" Thingy - a very proper term for controller.
But first - food. Specifically finishing off the sandwich and moving on to the chips and taking more drinks from the juicebox. One big drink after a particularly peanut-buttery sandwich bit and the juicebox was empty. She shook it a bit. Definitely empty, time for another one.
She reached for one of the other juiceboxes she had carried over. This time she set it on the floor and jabbed at it with the straw. It worked but some juice came out of the straw and onto her hand and the floor.
"Ooopsie." Oh well, juice tasted just as good when licked off her fingers.
no subject
Then she mentioned the race again and he blinked, looking back at the TV which was currently stuck in a loop of his victory. "Heck yeah we're gonna race again!!!" he said, suddenly fired up all over again before he zipped over to his place on the floor.
"Let's go let's go!!" Except Kaylee wasn't ready yet. She was drinking. He stuffed a handful of chips into his mouth and then thought a moment. In that time, the juice box exploded a bit onto Kaylee's fingers and he got it.
"AMMO LINE." he said, moving at his superspeed to set up a long line of already-prepared juice boxes for her to drink as she would. "There ya go!" Let's race now." All in a day's work.
no subject
"Yay juice boxes!" She poked at one. "All in a row. Thaaaaanks Bart!" Obviously he had done it because who else could do all of that so fast?
She quickly shoved the last bit of sandwich in her mouth and chewed fast while reaching for her controller. A swallow, sip of juice box, some wiggling on the floor pillow and she was so ready to race again.
"Okay race now, race now!" She didn't know how to get the race started so she just sat waiting for Bart to set it up again. In that time she glanced down at the controller to find the button to make her car go so she could have her finger ready to mash it down.
no subject
Stuffing another mouthful of food in his face, he slumped forward again and prepared them for the next race.
"Ready to go? Wait for the voice again!" he reminded her, before he pushed the start button.
3...2...1...GO!!
And they were off again.
no subject
3...2...1...GO!!
Her finger mashed down on the button and her car was off again. Unlike last time where her car went off track spectacularly on the first turn, this time she only went somewhat off track. Not too bad. Steering at high speeds was tough business anyway.
Bart was obviously ahead in the race but she kept right on going at it and by the second turn she was moving her body side to side a bit too. The view on her half of the screen sort of vaguely reminded her of the view on Serenity's bridge when Wash was pulling off some daring flying. Those images of the past left quick when she spun-out.
"Oops." Bit of work and she was back on again. No biggie. "Zoom zoom."
no subject
He grinned a bit when she spun-out. "Yep, oops." he agreed, swaying a bit as his car took a sharp turn. "Zoom zoom, vroooooooooooooom~!" he went right along with the toddler and made car noises, because everyone knew that made it even better. He even when "URRRRRRCH!" when he spun-out a bit himself.
Racing slow and making car sounds could only keep the attention span of a 4-year-old speedster for so long though, and before long, he was zipping between his controller and the pile of oh-so-delicious foods behind them.
no subject
"Yay!" The race was over and ... all right so Bart won (no surprises there) but she thought she had done very well considering she didn't abandon it like before. That was a big accomplishment right there.
She did however set down the controller in favor of a cookie and one of the ammo line juice boxes. The second race was fun but there was only so many times she wanted to drive a blue car in a loop.
"New game?" Maybe Bart could find something new and fun for them to do next. After all, they had enough food to keep them going for awhile.
no subject
"New game? Sure!" But the question was, which one? So many choices. He had to think of one that a 5 year old could play with ease too. There was always fighting games. Button-mashing could get you places.
That might teach her some things he actually didn't want to be responsible for. "How about space invaders!" Like that was totally better.
no subject
She was very proud of that fact too and it showed on her face.
Since he obviously had to do something to get their new game on the TV she settled more onto the floor pillow and went back to eating chips and cookies, pausing to have more from a juice box. She did get up for a minute to bring more of the food to her little area. That way she'd have it all ready to eat between games again.
no subject
He really liked the way she thought with that little pile of food closer to her reach. Not like he couldn't just zip over, but why do that when it could be even easier?
Following her lead, he made a nice little stack of food in his own little place.
"Ready? In this one, all you gotta do is move that little knobby stick around to steer, and that same button as before to shoot at the bad guys okay?"
no subject
She was happy he had followed suit and created his own stack of food. Now they could both eat between games and be happy (and well ... completely stuffed with junk food, at least on her end).
At his comment about the controls of this new game she looked down at the controller. Knobby stick - check. Move it to move the ship. Just like the car! And the same button that made the car move - that one - would shoot at the baddies.
Kaylee didn't like the baddies. Maybe these baddies were Alliance because it was in space.
"Okay!" She said after her studying of the controller. "Ready!"
