[log] Sokka and Suki~
Who: Sokka and Suki (REALLY I WOULD'VE NEVER GUESSED 8DD)
What: Being mopey and eating chocolate
When: Now?
Where: Outside; Suki's room
Rating: PG
Constant sun was really starting to annoy Sokka. It really reminded him of the upcoming eclipse (which was only four days away), and chances of them making it back before them were getting slimmer and slimmer. In frustration, he decided to sit outside in the sunset on the steps of the castle, picking up nearby rocks and throwing them into the grass. He muttered as he did so, and hoped things would turn out all right for them in the end.
Suki had been picking flowers for her room. Unlike her currently crabby boyfriend, she loved the sun--and as the days grew warmer her spirits lifted considerably. Which was why she was gathering a small bouquet of flowers--she had decided her room could use a spring infusion. She was just reaching down to pick a sprig of bluebell, when she noticed a figure who appeared to be chucking rocks into the sunset--on closer examination she saw it was Sokka, and with a smile she made her way to his side. "Hey there--what'd the grass ever do to you?"
At Suki's voice, Sokka stopped for a second then glanced up at her, before continuing his previous activity. "It grew," he mumbled. Not being able to use sarcasm, not eating meat, and the upcoming eclipse was really making him bitter. He felt sorry, but he didn't have the energy to get up and apologize, so he continued to throw stuff.
She tilted her head, and pushed a stray strand of hair out of her eyes. This was no good--she could almost feel the negativity coming off of him. She sighed quietly, then sat beside him, staring into the beautiful Paradisa sunset. Beautiful, but...always the same. Some nights she did sort of miss the clouds. She broke the silence that had accumulated between them finally. "You seem kind of down...are you okay?"
"No, I'm terrible," he replied and threw a stone extra hard. He let out a breath and picked up another rock, turning it over in his hands. "Imagine not being able to say stuff you wanna say, and not being able to eat your favorite foods, and on top of that you're about to lose the war you were so close to winning. You'd be pretty miserable too." He threw the rock.
She took the hand that was reaching for a new rock, and held it tightly within her own. "Sokka...I know you're worried about home..." worried was an understatement. She had been having a hard time sleeping at night, and she wasn't nearly as invested in the fighting effort as he was--it was always so hard to articulate emotions. She sighed slightly, and continued. "...And I know you're worried about the eclipse coming up. But maybe...maybe time is different here? I just can't believe...I can't believe that we'd lose our only chance of hope. Surely we can find a way back, and save the world..."
Sokka pried his wrist from her hand and threw his toy extra hard. "Yeah, but that's exactly it! I don't know what time is like back home, so I have to assume the worst." He paused and slumped a bit. "But don't worry, though," he started quickly. "Once the eclipse passes, I'll relax a bit, have some fun, yanno, and then take down Azula." He nodded. Sounded like a good plan to him.
She watched the rock skitter away, and regarded him carefully. Somehow his reassurances rang a little hollow--still..."Yeah, taking down Azula will be nice...something I've been looking forward to." She glanced down at the flowers in her lap, and gathered them carefully in a hand. "I'd better get these in some water..."
"Oh, I know, me too, that'd be a satisfying day." He glanced over when Suki spoke, and noticed the flowers in her hand. They were pretty, but he wasn't about to admit it. Because he was manly, you know. "Well then," he stood up and stretched a little. "You wanna go up to your room, then?"
She brightened--she had been trying to offer him a way out, some alone time, but she was secretly very pleased he was willing to accompany her. She stood, grinning. "Yeah, that'd be great!" She turned back to the castle, and glanced over her shoulder. "I have a surprise for you there.." she grinned.
Raising his eyebrow, Sokka turned to follow her. "Oh? What kind of surprise?" He liked surprises. But only when they were good surprises. Any other kind of surprise was kinda lame. "You got me some-" his voice caught in his throat. "Fruit salad?"
seventeen flights of stairs was a pain to trudge up. She looked over her shoulder to Sokka's face again, exhaling slightly. "It's a good surprise. And while it's not fruit salad, it's definitely something edible."
He grinned for the first time in a while. "Is it-" the word 'steak' caught in his throat. "Cake?" he asked eagerly. Steak made his stomach churn (with disgust or hunger, he couldn't tell), but cake was just as good.
"Close, but not quite." She took his hand in hers when she saw the grin, and led him up the last few steps and to her room. She opened the door, stepping inside and pulling him along with her. "Now, have a seat--I'll put these flowers up." She found a vase and filled it with water, then began a sort of haphazard flower arrangement.
"Uh, okay," He made himself comfortable on the bed, and wondered what kind of edible surprise she had in store for him. "Should I close my eyes, or something?" Not waiting for a response, he shut them anyway. If he was gonna be surprises, may as well make the most of it.
"Yes!" She giggled, and turned around quickly to make sure his eyes were closed. When she saw they were, she opened a drawer beside her bed and pulled out a small bag. Then she walked to stand over him, and spoke in a low voice. "I got you something special--kisses."
After her statement, Sokka brightened a little but kept his eyes close, fully expecting another pair of lips on his. When that didn't happen, he slowly opened one eye and looked up at her. "Kisses?" he asked. "Where?"
With a grin, she held the bag in front of him. "These! These are little candies called kisses!" Har har. She had thought the joke was adorable and hillarious. She opened the bag and pulled out a little silver kiss, and placed it in his hand. "Here--try one!"
He opened his other eye and raised his eyebrow. If that was supposed to be a joke, it was a pretty lame one. He eyed the silver candy in his hand, then began to unwrap the foil. When he was done, he was kinda surprised to see chocolate in the middle, and popped it in his mouth. Mmm! They were good. He held out his hand. "More please," he asked with his mouth full.
"Hmm okay!" This time, she leaned in and place her mouth on his. It tasted chocolately. When she pulled away, she smiled. "Ohhh you meant the other kisses. Well I got the whole bag for you, silly." She dropped it in his lap, and then sat beside him on the bed.
Laughing, Sokka reached into the bag and pulled out several more and popped them into his mouth. He held out the bag to Suki. "You want some? They're pretty good," he offered, and wrapped his arm around her shoulder.
She took one, and began to unwrap it. They were pretty good--she had eaten a bag earlier. But he didn't have to know that little detail. Instead, she popped one in her mouth and nodded. "Mmm, you're right, very tasty." And then rested her head on his shoulder.
"Yeah," he stuffed a several few more into his mouth. It took him a while to finally swallow them all, but when he did, he rested his own head on hers. "So, what do you think of all these new people? Pretty bizarre, huh."
"Yeah--it's strange how many new people showed up. And alot of them seem...really weird." With a sigh, she leaned back to lie on her bed. "And violent it seems." She shivered slightly.
"Violent, and all from the same world," he added with a frown. It was like he couldn't say anything to the new people, because he felt like he was intruding on their business. "Good thing only like that Mai chick showed up from our world. If Ozai showed up or something, I'd like kill myself. Not really, though." Ozai showing up would be definitely horrible... but some fleeting thought in the back of his head wondered what it'd be like if Yue showed up. Not good.
"Sometimes I find myself wishing that some of my friends from home would show up here.." She sighed, staring at the ceiling. "But...I try not to think about it. It'd be awful for them, so as nice as it'd be for me..." Thinking about it made her sad--she had been fighting the feelings of homesickness lately--but that didn't mean she wasn't subjected to it on a regular basis. "And yeah. It seems like a weird world..the world those people come from."
"Yeah, seriously," he paused. "I wish Toph'd come back. Our group feels kinda... incomplete without her." Talking like this made him homesick too, so he pulled out several more kisses and stuffed them in his mouth. He needed to change the subject. "Where'd you get these?"
"I went shopping in the village." She answered distractedly, one hand tugging a strand of hair--a habit she couldn't break when she was thinking. It had been a beautiful day--but for some reason she couldn't shake this sense of melancholy. She needed to snap out of it. With a slight shake of her head she forced herself to continue. "The stores are..nice."
"They are," he replied before lifting his head and raising his eyebrow at her. "Hey, are you okay?" Sokka rubbed her shoulder in hopes of comforting her. Hopefully, all that talk about home didn't make her feel too bad.
She sat up, and gave him a smile. "I'm fine really...maybe just a little tired or something." She shrugged, and reached for another kiss. This time, she took her time unwrapping it, enjoying the strange crinkly silver paper. Some of the things this world offered were truly incredible.
He leaned over and placed a small kiss on the top of her head. "Hey, if you're tired, then you should sleep or something," he suggested, offering her a small smile. He then followed suit and grabbed another piece of strangely-wrapped, awesome chocolate.
"Yeah, maybe..." she put her hand over his. She wasn't sure what she wanted, really. For him to stay, or for her to sleep. Maybe if she she went to sleep now, she would wake up feeling more cheerful. On the other hand, it was nice being around Sokka. Decisions decisions.
Sokka took his free hand and ran it through her hair. "Well, you tell me and I'll do it." He shrugged. "I'll leave, stay, sit until you fall asleep, whatever. It's up to you," he grinned at her.
She smiled, "You're sweet. I'm very lucky..." On an impulse she leaned in and kissed him, bringing her free hand to rest against his cheek. She might be stuck in this foreign world while things spiraled out of control in her own--but at least she wasn't alone.
He was a bit taken by surprise, actually, but his eyes slipped shut almost immediately after. Leaning a bit into the kiss, he placed his hand on her shoulder. This was one thing in this stressful week he kinda needed (besides that steak), and was relieved to have a break, even if he was losing valuable time. He finally pulled back and grinned at her. "Yeah, I'm pretty lucky too."
She grinned back at him. Her mood had lifted, but she found the exhaustion had stuck around. She yawned and glanced towards the window. "It's pretty late...I actually probably should get to bed."
"Yeah, you should," he patted her head one last time before standing up and stretching a little. "Well, I'll leave you be." Grabbing his bag of chocolate, he headed for the door. He was about to leave when he glanced over his shoulder and threw her a smile. "Sweet dreams, Suki."
