THREAD; dureena [incomplete]

Who: Dureena [[livejournal.com profile] larcenies] and anyone.
What: Dureena can't sleep, so she goes to sit on the roof for a while.
When: After midnight.
Where: Er, on the roof.
Rating: Eh, PG for starters.

Dureena had always had trouble sleeping, but since she'd come to Paradisa, things had just gotten worse. It wasn't as if her bed wasn't comfortable (it was more than that, although she still thought it was too big), or that her neighbors were particularly loud. She just had difficulty falling asleep, and she wasn't quite sure exactly what was keeping her awake. So this night, she decided to go up on the roof for some fresh air.

There were only two floors above hers, and two flights of stairs were nothing for a woman as athletic as she was. She emerged onto the roof and was greeted with a brisk breeze. The night air was mild, not too warm and not too cold. While the feeling was a pleasant one, it set Dureena's nerves on edge just a bit. Nothing was ever too much of anything here; it was always just right. Too perfect. And it made her nervous.

Stalking over to the edge of the roof, she sat down, tucking one leg under her and letting the other hang over the edge. She was at such a height here that, should someone happen to shove her from behind, she would fall to her death; but it was fairly obvious that that didn't concern her. Her reflexes were good enough that she would be able to hear anyone approaching her and react in time.

Dureena simply sat there for a few moments, breathing in the air and looking up at the twilit sky with its brilliant moon and stars. A sight like this would have made her smile not so long ago. Now, it didn't evoke much but a nagging feeling of anxiety.

With a short, frustrated sigh, she took a whetstone from her belt and one of the many daggers she kept on her person at all times, and idly began to sharpen the blade.

The sky here had a way of bugging him more than it should.

It was as if the term "bad weather" had no place here. Kyuzo hadn't been there long, but since his arrival to Paradisa he had yet to see a single rain cloud or feel a single unfriendly gust of wind. It was unnatural the way the stars and the moon gleamed so in the night sky, blanketing the entire rooftops in light enough to see by.

It almost felt like the very perfection of the place was mocking him.

He hated it.

He stepped lightly across the roof, his shoes making small tapping sounds on the archaic tile below his feet. Pacing about the top of the vast castle had become something of a pastime to him since he had nothing better to do. He never slept at night; he slept when he was tired, and that was that. Up here people weren't likely to bother him, and he could be alone with his thoughts, muddled as they were at the moment.

He heard her before he saw her. Likely that she heard him as well. Kyuzo recognized the sound instantly: the sound of a blade being sharpened. His eyes took longer, but he soon located the source of the sound. It looked like a person--a woman--at the edge of the roof.

He continued walking, his pace never faltering, until he was only a few feet behind her. Once there he looked not at her, but out towards the horizon, strangely silhouetted in front of the night sky.

Clark was a very thoughtful man....he often enjoyed flying through the sky, and it at least gave him time to think. Of course, here, it didn't seem as calming as it did in Metropolis. Here it was almost completely silent at night, and after his brief excursion in the kitchens, he had needed to go back out flying...

It was always this way, always flying, always musing...he was busy worrying about Metropolis or Lois or a million other things. He didn't have a paper to work for here, and reading was only marginally interesting when he was distracted by all the things that could be going on back home.

Always, always worrying. Now with that Baby they had found a few days before his disappeared, and Lois busy herself, how would she get by? How would she get by, how could he get by? Nay, it was alot of flying. Alot.

He never got to fly this much back in Metropolis. That was the relaxing thing. Of course, at that moment he managed to look downwards, and noticed the two figures on the roof of the castle. He smiled in bemusement, and made his way downwards. He didn't think being alone was a good idea, so being around others was probably the best.

Sighing, he landed slowly, nodding and smiling to the two...wasn't one of them Dureena? Ah, but she didn't know it was him, did she?
