040 - Want It All Back

[It's Monday morning, time for all the good children of the city to be going to school. There is a very enthusiastic redhead skipping down the sidewalk with her backpack balanced on her head. She's dressed very much like your typical 13(ish) year old... but her bare feet slap the sidewalk as she dances her way through the crowd singing at the top of her lungs.]

Schooo~oool, schooo~oool, gooooiiiing to schoooo~ooool! Edward is going to leaaaarn something today yes oh yes!

[She's not entiiiiirely watching where she's going, if she's not careful she might run into someone]

Edward, did you forget to put shoes on again? You'll catch cold at this time of year.

[Edward makes a face. But mama Lilliiiith, shoes make her fall doooowwwn.]

Does Edward have to wear shoes?

I'm afraid so, Edward. In the winter, all big girls wear shoes.

[Edward plops down right there on the sidewalk and proceeds to pull the shoes onto her feet (who needs socks, man?).]

Allyyyy-oop! [She pushes up, hopping back onto her feet... and promptly starts wavering back and forth, having lost all her balance]

[Stretching out a hand to catch her before she can fall, Lilith smiles fondly.]

Careful, now.

Whoooaaaaahhhhh!! [She waves her arms, grabbing onto Lilith]

Edward doesn't like shoes...

But I should imagine you don't like to catch cold, either.

[So let's be sensible and wear shoes in the snow.]

[Pout[ Nooooo.

[She lets go of Lilith, still wobbling with these foreign objects on her feet]

Hold the pram handle with one hand, and take Etoile's hand with the other, and you'll get the hang of it.

[Realizing that she's going to have to do this otherwise Lilith might not let her play with the kids later, Ed gives up. She nods, taking hold of the pram and reaching out for Etoile's hand.]

Oooookaaaaay.

Good, Edward.

[She smiles warmly down at her, leading the procession on towards school.]

[She's still very wobbly as they walk along. Peeking into the pram, she smiles.]

Nanako's getting biiiiig.

She is, isn't she? Perhaps she'll even start crawling soon.

Yeah?! [She looks back up at Lilith] How soon?

Perhaps in a month or two... or maybe sooner, if you teach her when you come for Christmas with Jacob.

Edward will teach her! [she hops up and down.. and promptly trips, stumbling.]

[Whoa there! She carefully catches Edward before the girl can fall.]

Why don't you teach her at Christmas, when you don't have to wear shoes in the house?

[She looks a little sheepishly up at Lilith, taking care not to drag little Etoile down with her. She straightens]

Okay! Edward will teach her then.

[Etoile is holding Edward's hand tightly, taking great care in her task of helping their neighbour walk in shoes.]

Are you looking forward to Christmas?

[She shall be rewarded with piggy back rides galore later. Edward GRINS at Lilith, nodding.]

Uh-huh! Edward can't wait for Papa Noel to visit!

Did you write him a letter?

[Subtly trying to get gift ideas... from Papa Noel, of course.]

Uh-huh! Edward wants a bike, and some new games and some yummy yummy treats!

And have you been good enough for Papa Noel this year?

Liliiiiiiith [Edward whines] Of course Edward has been good! Edward is aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalways good!

Then Papa Noel is sure to bring you all your heart desires.
