21st Death

[going outside today will net you one confused member of the Koriel going full out WTF at the weather. it's cold and he can't help but flinch everytime snow falls on him because Dextera has never been in a situation where something cold didn't hurt him. but so far he's deemed it safe to wander around and try and figure out exactly what was going on.

oddly enough, the strange fireflies wandering around the area don't bother him at all. they're pretty but apparently harmless. so far, anyways....]

You really need to take better care of yourself. You're not much use if you go an lose a few limbs to frostbite, you know.

[He tugged the second glove into place and glanced at Dextera, arching a brow at the boy's skyward gaze

He always felt strangely protective of the boy, but he hadn't felt that oddly affectionate surge of emotion since he rescued Dextera from his own room.

But here it was again, and stronger than ever.]

Dextera...

[Keeping one hand on Dextera's he reached up and touched the boy's face, hoping to get his attention]

[it does get his attention and Dextera looks at Felix, tilting his head slightly. normally, with someone this close to him, he'd want to back up but this time he didn't want to at all.

Dextera didn't understand what exactly he wanted to do but it seemed to involve Felix's lips. maybe if he looked closer he could figure it out.]

[There was a brief glimmer of thought that perhaps he shouldn't be doing this, but he wasn't listening.

Instead he met Dextera half-way, leaning down to press his lips to the boy's, the kiss gentle but not-at-all shy]

[Dextera is a bit more shy about it - this was the first time someone had actually kissed him - but it didn't feel bad at all. it felt...nice. not a really fancy word to discribe this, but it was the closest thing Dextera could think of when experiencing something this brand-new.

maybe the things forgotten by everyone else weren't so far away from him after all.]

[He increased the pressure just slightly before breaking away with a slight sigh, the magic fading away as he did so.

He knew immediately what had happened. When this had happened with Ashura, he'd panicked, but with Dextera, Felix didn't think he would have to fear any anger. It concerned him what the boy would make of what had just happened.

Felix steps away, not wanting to worry Dextera by running, but feeling suddenly aware of how close they had been standing]

Are you alright?

[he looks fine but curious at the same time. it was something he didn't understand and for once, Dextera had nothing to compare it to. usually he had something - a lesson learned from one of his deaths, an object he found that someone was willing to tell him the meaning of - but it didn't feel like those would help now.

still there was no helping his curiosity and Dextera looked back at Felix, tilting his head slightly. what was that?]

[Dextera wasn't upset, so that was something, but it was hard to know exactly what that head tilt meant]

The...the castle makes it people kiss each other around this time of year.

[He glances up]

I believe it's the fairies doing it this time.

[he looks up too, staring at the fairies. so this wasn't something people did on their own? if he had the meaning of 'make' right, anyways.

Dextera tries moving some of the snow out of the way with his foot so he could hopefully get at the dirt. he wanted to ask more and he was starting to realize that he needed more that just his journal to talk to people.]

What you doing now?

[Dextera taps his throat, actually looking a little bit annoyed for once. it was easier back home because there wasn't any snow and he had blood to spare for writing, but it probably wouldn't go over so well right now.

finally hitting a small patch of dirt, he bends down to write a little.]

Don't have my journal. But what is kissing?

[Note to self: buy the boy a notepad]

That just now? That was a kiss.

...You've never kissed anyone, have you?

[He is in so much trouble]

[he shakes his head.]

No. What does it mean?

It usually means that you like the other person.

'Like' how? [yeah, you're probably going to have to explain this in a bit more detail.]

[He's going to need a drink after this]

It's...complicated. Either you care about them, or you feel affectionate towards them. You want to be...closer to them.

[a pause, then...]

Close enough to touch, or a different kind of 'close'?

A little of both.

But 'make' means you had to do it, right? [meaning this had no meaning.]

[Babby no ;;]

In this instance, yes...

[Something is gnawing at him just watching Dextera's face. He's not sure what it is yet.]

[he tilts his head again, thinking. there was something that he felt like he should be feeling but it was lost on him and everything he could feel didn't match up to what they usually did. the mute felt like he was back to square one again with understanding this.

Dextera looks up at Felix for a moment before looking back down to write.]

Are you okay?

[He smiled, sadly]

I don't want you to think I do not care. I just...

I am not sure I'm the person who should be teaching you all this. It's the sort of thing one tends to learn in time.

[even if he's not sure if he has the time left to do that, Dextera will smile.]

Okay. Thank you for telling me about this. [a pause.] And the gloves. No one's done that before.

[and that has a meaning behind it: "thank you for caring."]

[The hard part was, he wanted to kiss Dextera again. And more, probably, if he was allowed it.

But he knew that he shouldn't. That he had no right to turning this boy's world upside-down. The fact that he'd been the boy's first kiss was both vaguely disturbing and thrilling in a way that only made him more possessive in ways he wasn't sure he wanted to think about.

It should be Dextera's choice to venture beyond that, even if that meant he was innocent forever.]

Well, someone has to keep an eye on you.

[He smiled, reaching out briefly to ruffle Dextera's hair]

And do go buy some winter clothes. There is going to be a few months of this weather.

[it was hard to turn someone's world upside down when it had already been turned upside down, inside out and stood on it's head. as for his innocence, it'd be around for as long as his curiosity was - or stupidity, if you believed the Archangel.

he looked up when his hair was played with. Dextera isn't sure what to say about the watching comment but he can respond to the other one.]

Okay, I'll go look for some.

[He smiled] Good boy.
