Merely out of curiosity, how is Halloween usually observed here? It seems right up the castle's proverbial alley, and I'm wondering if I should invest in a padlock and armaments ahead of time.

[Said with a bored, drowsy sort of sarcasm. But with the unwelcome gusto with which Paradisa began autumn, and having heard and read of various horrors in past years, she's curious – in a vaguely morbid sort of way.

She dictates this from the roof, where she's sitting on a little purple pillow and working on what seems to be the beginnings of a knitting project. Christmas is still months away, but one never knows what disruptions might happen before then.]

He's a good friend of mine. I would advise discretion when you speak with him, but he knows a lot about the castle... he used to live here, but has since moved out to the dead zone.

I can't imagine the appeal in that.

In living in the Dead Zone. I apologize, my words were a bit vague.

There are other people living out there as well. Who don't permit contact with castle residents until they pass a certain test...

Five years, I believe it is, of no contact with the castle - or at least that's what it's supposed to be. A person has to rely on themselves to prove they can survive alone until they can join with that group.

He's breaking that rule... and he could get killed for it. So if you do talk to him, please, be careful. He knows a lot about this castle and the world but he's in a dangerous position...

I will most certainly keep in mind the potential dangers should I choose to contact him.

Are there any ideas on why this group is so rigid about their lack of contact with us?

I wish I knew. I wish anyone knew.
