¤ 27 - A Challenge

[though he's been too wrapped up in his own 'problems' to really follow whatever has been brewing in much of the rest of the castle, he can't dodge the tension. The air feels tangibly charged, people seem to be getting ready for something, and it's very contagious.

With him wanting to test out his newly-healed shoulder, and this whole place feeling like it's itching for a fight... it seems like an obvious combination]

Anyone who wants to blow off steam-- I'll be out on the castle grounds. [and then a pause, as the voice of a certain piratess comes to mind. He better clarify--] ...For sparring.


((ooc: it's been a while since Zuko's been in a good fight. Open for training or whatever else. Come at him, bros!))

[Fire. Yeah, this is feeling more like home already. She walks over, pulling her hair into a ponytail as she goes.]

And here I thought this wouldn't be a challenge.

[he waves the fire away with a flick of his hand and glances over]

Tch. I'll try not to disappoint you.

[She grins] I'm Phoebe, by the way. It's been a while since I've sparred with anyone who could throw fire, but I think I'll need all the practice I can get.

Zuko. [noting that she doesn't obviously seem to be carrying a weapon--] What do you do?

Hand to hand combat, mostly. I know how to use a sword if I have to.

[She's starting to stretch a little as they talk]

And you've fought with someone who uses fire?

[maybe sounds a little interested by this. He doesn't hear from nearly enough people who can do anything like firebending]

[Her look turns a little sad as she nods. She'd only just found out today that Cole had gone home, it was still a little raw]

Plenty of times. Most of the time it's been actual fighting, not sparring. But I've sparred with one who could.

[he falls into a ready stance without really thinking about it, feet a step apart and casually planted, somewhere between conversational and ready to fight. Just waiting for her to show when she's ready]

[She rolls her shoulders and cracks her neck, watching him]

I can't do anything like that, myself, but it's useful to know how to fight someone who can.

[With one final stretch she settles into a fighting stance]

[and he's going to take that as a cue that it's okay to go ahead and throw fire at her, so... hoping that she knows what she's doing, that's precisely what he does-- lunging forward with a punch of flame thrown her way, starting off on the safe side]

[oooo flaming punches, that's new. She dodges to one side, ducking and sweeping her leg at his legs]

[springs that pretty easily, getting a feel for her speed and style as he tries to move back to reclaim some space between them. He throws out a few more short waves of flame as he does, aiming to keep her back]

[She's fast, but not superhuman, though she seems to be predicting his attacks extremely well which makes up for it. She lets him keep her back for the moment, getting used to the flames.]
