Well, I'd call that a colossal backfire. Turns out Wesley's a little more ruthless than I thought. Who knew he had it in him, that sap. I need to figure out how he figured out about Lilah. Something must have triggered the compulsion to override it. No better way of wasting my time here than to figure out how. Not that it matters -- however he did it, it's annoying.

Guess this means she's off-tap. And considering I'm not sure I trust taking a bite out of the townspeople or anything wished into existence by this place, I'm thinking it's time to find a new source.

Define "okay." We haven't exactly been bosom buddies since she figured out that I killed her.

[ She frowns. ] The last thing I remember is Stefan being trapped in the tomb and you stopping me from taking a step further.

Very. As far as I can tell, Caroline's the one furthest along. Stefan's just a little after you. Alaric and were dealing with Elijah before we got here. You remember him, right? Well, he's dead. We shoved him in the basement. Problem solved.

Easy as that? He's just ... gone.

Easy isn't a word I'd use, but ... gone. And Stefan's tomb-free.

Good. [ Another confirmation that Stefan was out. ] What about Katherine?

Sealed in the tomb. With Elijah dead, there shouldn't be anyone to remove the compulsion keeping her there. Nice, clean, happy ending.

Happy endings are unreachable in Mystic Falls, Damon. There's got to be a catch somewhere.

[ She sighs ] But what happened with Rose?

[ Y u ruin his happy, Elena. He has to take comfort in the back home stuff since he just got tortured to all hell. ]

Werewolf bite. She went out of her mind. She was rabid, there was no saving her. So, when we realized she was dazed to the point of attacking you, I -- [ He shrugs. He doesn't regret it. Rose was someone he cared deeply for, but he cared a hell of a lot more for Elena. ]

[ She speaks softly to him, all concerned. Poor Damon ;; ] I'm sorry you had to do that. [ VERY. ] But you did what was best for her. Hopefully she can see that.

He fixes her with a steady look, then grabs a menu from the side of the table and hands it over to her. ] Now, come on. We're here for lunch, not boring stories about Mystic Falls.

I'm not pitying you, Damon. [ She takes the menu from him and starts skimming it ] Do you come here often?

No. I usually hang out in the Death Match, but I figured this was more your scene.

And what exactly is [ She puts her menu down and airquotes ] "my scene"?

Bright. [ There's something soft and genuine that other people don't get from Damon when he answers her. ] And warm. The Death Match is neither. You wouldn't like it.

[ ;; ] Do you like this place?

Both. [ The castle, but she was referring to the Lux previously. ]

Jury's still out. The castle's downright homey, as long as you know not to trust it.

[ Noted ] Stefan told me to avoid wishing if I could help it. What else does this place have up it's sleeve besides losses and wishes?

Oooh, smart move for Stefan. [ A beat, then flatly; ] For once. [ Moving on ... ] I figure he also briefed you with a heads up that we're not the only things with fangs here. Might wanna be careful, they won't all be as nice as my brother and I.
