[Fenris has been wandering the grounds of the castle today, much like a tiger would pace the boundaries of its cage. Testing the extent of his loss, how far he could go, how long he could be away before the castle inevitably dragged him back into that accursed lobby. At least out here, he could enjoy a scant hour or so of peace and quiet before the horrible, tugging and NEW need to talk to others started niggling at him.

It was on this walk that he's come upon the cemetery. He wanders through it, unable to properly read all the words upon the stones, but recognising it for what it is regardless. Humans may not bury their dead in Thedas, but elves most certainly do. He crouches down by one to feel the earth, before opening his journal, grimacing a little to even have to speak into it. He'd never get used to that
]

I have been told that death here is not permanent. In two weeks, the dead return as if nothing had happened at all. If that is so, why is there a graveyard here? That suggests people remain dead, does it not?

...Unless you are prone to burying people alive. Which I would not put past some of you.

Well -- have you noticed -- okay, let's start from a better beginning. Paradisa as a whole seems to enjoy celebrating holidays from the planet Earth, and usually just a small portion of this planet. Over the last four/five years there've been multiple celebrations of holidays called "Christmas" and "Halloween" and "Valentines Day." They each happen on a specific date of the calendar. Christmas is on the 25th of December, Halloween the 31st of October, Valentines Day on the 14th of February. (These are just naming some of the most common reoccurring holidays.)

This last October heading into November saw another Earth holiday, from a different part of Earth. Unlike Halloween, which is apparently about being haunted by fake ghosts and eating copious amounts of candy, the November celebration seemed to be focused on celebrating the dead. During that celebration, the graveyard appeared, and any of us who had died before in Paradisa (or who died before coming here) found we had decorative paint on our faces that refused to come off. It's related to the holiday tradition somehow, but I imagine for people who had no record of their death previously it was shocking to realize that abruptly that they had died. I think everyone might have had a gravestone, but the only ones that stayed around were for those who had died at some point.

I wouldn't say it really bothers me? Or it does, but it bothers me because I can't remember, not that experience, nor any of the rest I had the other times I was here. I don't like memory being screwed around with like that.

Okay, I admit, I also don't like dying, or knowing I have died, but there's no point in worrying too much over that point. Most things and people die eventually, so it shouldn't be that surprising, right?

I agree. I'm glad not to be from there most the time.

[ Nice long pause in writing here, so nothing else gets dictated to him for a while, and then; ]

Those are the losses I hate the most. Here, where they're entirely out of your control. It's difficult enough at home, where injury, maybe disease affects what you remember. Time does it too, in its own way, but this place...

[ That sentence remains unfinished. DUN DUN yeahwhatever jlkasdf ]

[ SUNSHINE AND FLOWERS goodness she needs to bring more of that into people's lives or something she's like a sudden depressive rainstorm. ]

Not this time! I mean, no more than anyone else, if they've been and gone. So I've been able to remember everyone this time!

That counts more than the other times, or the things that I can't control. I know it.

[ She can try. Try her best! She'll just shut up about the rest. ]

Yes. Any moments of happiness or positivity are ones we should cherish and hold close. We're kind of the people who take then away from ourselves. I'd like to work on giving those back!

SO tell me, what's one pleasant thing that's happened for you lately?

[ ... Oh that's kind of heavy too. Freedom in a literal... or metaphorical sense? Sakura knows there's a lot of things to gain freedom from. ]

The freedom's still yours. We're held in this world, sure, but we were all born into another one. In a way we were born here, too, and most don't except they're going to change worlds during their lifetime. It's a scene change no one planned for, and it can be good!

What do you want to do now that you're here? And haven't gone away quite yet.

Ha! Anything we want to, if not always everything we should. If you haven't had a lot of time to figure out interests before, then this might be the chance to start trying things out -- different foods, activities, taking up new an different skills -- just because you can.

And if you want you can walk away at any time. You can say "I'm done with this!" or choose not to give up. Make friends or, I guess, make enemies. Go get drunk if you like the lack of control and disconnected feeling alcohol tends to give most people. Gamble, or dance, or laugh at people who're doing either of those. Go tracking in the forest, pick up hunting, weave baskets, weave blankets, if I have no idea how to do either of those personally, spar, visit the hot springs, build a -- treehouse?

Treehouses are an Earth thing, but the idea's kind of fun, for kids. Maybe build one for other people. Anyway, that's the thing. Free people dream, and do, and fail, and succeed. Were there other dreams, beyond freedom? Or was the idea so big it was the dream in its whole?

"Must" if you want to. I suggest trying, since the only thing you have to lose in trying is -- time. We've got more of that here than we usually do where we're from. So yeah! Try different things, and figure out from those what you like, what you don't, what doesn't seem to really fall one way or the other. If you really get bored I can always teach you sign language.

[ SHE CAN DREAM. Sakura dreams... both large and small. It occurs to her that dreaming might be a bit of a luxury. 8( ]

Yes! I'm sure there has to be some kind of book that shows you what they look like. There's books for all kinds of buildings in the library. Seeing examples might be inspirational? Or else you use your own creativity, invent what you see in your mind's eye.

Hmm, think you'll start? Choosing to dream. Or be at all inclined toward it?

Sign languages were developed on Earth, at least the ones I've studied. Between those I'm personally familiar with the British Sign Language, and I've been picking up American Sign Language. It's a way of speaking with hands and gestures, spelling things out too. Not as complex in ways as most spoken languages I'm familiar with, if it can communicate most the general concepts of spoken language.

[ A pen tap on the journal leaves a random dot of ink. Hello dot! ]

What about illustrations? I was thinking more along those lines, though I don't know if architectural drawings will make all that much sense to you. Have you worked with or looked at blueprints before?

That's the spirit!

I'd be more than happy to!

[ HAPPILY ENOUGH TO HAVE A DISNEY PRINCESS MOMENT except she can't sing and Scooter's probably snoring somewhere nearby considering she's been writing a lot soooooo nothing actually happens outside of smiling and thinking one for the cause! despite having no real concrete idea what this cause was.

I can look into finding a few books like that for you, pull them out and set them aside. Then it'd be a matter of looking through when you felt like it.

If anything comes to mind, I'll let you know. In the meantime, I'll see about finding books that'll work, and we can get back in touch in a few days?
