[Dictated over the journal (though anyone in the Lux will also hear her saying it):]

Anyone that's been wondering when the Lux is gonna open back up, I have an answer for you. Today! Today it's back to... sort of what it was before.

The castle must've finished the repairs while we were all on board those ships. The graffiti though, from while we were gone, we cleaned that by hand and fixed the rest of the minor things that had been done by whoever was messing the castle up.

[She shakes her head, making a soft sound] Sorry, I'm sure most of you don't care how it got fixed, as long as it's fixed.

One thing, at least for the time being, is that I don't have a cook. I can do most the easy stuff, but for today I'm actually going to call a "Grilling Only" rule. If the calendar I keep is right - it's the Fourth and no one in their right mind actually cooks on a stove today.

As long as I can stick it on the grill, you can order it.

[there's the sound of light tapping, the tip of her ring finger hitting the surface of the bartop]

Oh! Before I forget, is there anyone in the castle that knows a lot about art, has some free time, needs a job, and can easily get to the city?

How else are we gonna know we've got the best person for the job if we don't try the food?

I've watched those cooking shows and sometimes you don't want to try the food.

Probably true -- which is how we know that they're not gonna be a good fit.

Very true. We should think really hard about this.

It's a big decision. If we get someone crappy and Eliot comes back, heads are gonna roll.

Well, if Eliot comes back he won't even remember. So, the ball's in our court.

[snorts]

This is Eliot. He's like a friggin' elephant. Knowing my luck, he'd be the one person to come back and remember.

[and that's said with all the fondness. really]

[Jo'll shrug. She's seen a few people come back and not have any clue, so she's not going to hold her breath.]

We'll see.

[nods as she goes back to doing her job]

Are you doing okay? With the whole sudden restaurant thing?

Yeah. It's not too bad. I was doing a lot of it before he left, mostly because of the Bela clones and back home I helped Mom a lot with the Roadhouse.

It's just another thing to do in the morning, I guess.

[nods as she serves up a beer and glances back to her]

At least it's profitable?

Yes, there is the ability to pay rent on two places.

Yeah -- why are you doing that again?

[Jo laughed, shaking her head]

It's a favor for Nora, you know one of the teenagers here? When I was still figuring out if I could find someone to rent it from me, since it is paid in for another four months, she was talking about never having her own space. I offered her the chance to crash there when the castle got too much for her.

Then when we got back from Pirates R Us, they'd vandalized all of her art. She asked if she could stay there and she's just a kid... [shrug] I remember how badly I wanted out when I was her age.

[nods slowly]

There are too many kids in this place.

It does make them grow up a bit quick.

And it sucks.

I think they manage alright.

Never said that. They just shouldn't have to. I've been there.

Well, at least Nora has me looking out for her.

Yeah. I'm glad.

Well, we'll sort out this cook thing soon enough, right? It won't be too bad until then. We've managed with less.

Yeah. Shouldn't be hard at all.

Alright, I'm gonna go do some inventory counts. I'll be in the back if you need me.

[nods]
