when I look at the STAAAAAAAARS

All of that work, and it looks like it's been for bugger-all. She was using Legato all the time ... I should have known. Should have put the pieces together ... but no, I was so focused on finding my own solution to the problem that I didn't even realize that it had changed. And now I may have just made things worse.
Just because she's got a renewable source of nourishment doesn't mean she's going to use it, singularly. ... But at least the Patrol is aware of the situation, now. I suppose the greatest quandary now is ... should I tell them what I've done, and risk possibly losing my membership, or ... wait until Riful uses it as some sort of leverage against me - as she undoubtedly will? It's not really a quandary at all, when I put it that way, is it, old friend?
[he rests his chin in his hand glumly and looks down at K-9, who waggles his little satellite-dish ears]
Affirmative, Doctor.
Then ... how should I tell them...? Where do I even begin ... Perhaps I should try to find a new solution, first.

[he begins poring over his notes, and remains sitting at his laboratory bench in the TARDIS for quite some time. after a while, though, all the words and figures begin to blur together, and he leans back, rubbing at his eyes] ... Perhaps a change of focus, even for a moment ...
[he picks up the vial of blue program energy he'd gotten from Gibson, and studies it intently] If I can find a way to replicate this, Tony may have his portable fuel after all ...
[he's so tired, though, so very mentally shot. maybe just one little sip won't hurt. he sips at the test tube, delicately - and it tastes marvellous. like a good night's rest and the Zero Room and a good cup of tea and a sunny day and the best cocktail ever, all rolled into one drinkable thing.
before he knows it, the whole thing is gone.]
Well. I suppose I shouldn't have done that.
[not a nanosecond after, his head hits the workbench with an audible THUD]
