Twentieth Sip
[Mal has been enjoying the peace and quiet after that whole slenderman mess. She really should have known something would ruin it. More to the point, she should have expected that speech about how her world worked on belief to come back and bite her on the ass.
Her first clue something is distinctly wrong was when she wakes up in the hallway outside her room. The next big warning klaxon is that her hair is in her eyes, that's definitely not normal. Looking down and seeing more cleavage than had been on show for a long time (ie: any) is the final horrible proof that her life is going to get especailly more difficult. Luckily, the journal is open on the floor to record her displeasure]
What the bloody HELL?!!
[She jumps up to a standing position pretty damn quickly; despite the fact this dress is clearly not designed with movement in mind, and tries her door, which does not open. Well, she's not having any of THOSE castle games, thank you very much. The journal picks up the loud BANG as she tries to punch her door off it's hinges, to no avail]
OH COME ON! What did I do to deserve this?

[Brock's room has a little kitchenette, and sure enough, there is a coffee machine over there.] You take it black, right? Like sludge-black.

The only way to drink it if you ask me.

[He isn't really sure how to make coffee that thick, but he is willing to try! He just sort of fiddles around with the coffee machine for a minute, then sets it to brew.]

Klatch is a country on my planet, it makes very strong coffee. Knurd is a state of... hyper awareness? It's like the opposite of being drunk.

That sounds like it would make your heart explode. [... can vampire have heart attacks NO DON'T ASK THAT, that's stupid]

Nah, though most people who drink it end up mad, or a philosopher. You see the world in all it's harsh reality. [That really is a stupid question, Brock]

I think I'll stay way from that stuff, then. I kinda like being sane.

I can't seem to get it anyway. It's a real shame, that's good stuff.

[Whoop, coffee's done! Brock pours her a cup and hands it over.] Let me know if it's not disgusting enough.

[Takes that delicious cup of tar and has a sip] Perfectly toxic in every way.

There's a story behind that one. Who's Strappi?

The corporal I replaced in our regiment. A slimy little deserter who made it his mission to make our lives miserable up to the point he realised he was expected to actually fight in the war.

Well ... maybe he'll show up here. Then you can punch him in the face forever.

I was considering pushing him off the roof to watch how much he bounces. Not much, I'd bet.
