[Sweets is in the kitchen, fixing lunch with the journal open next to him as he does. He's making ... a heck of a sandwich, with lots of different ingredients spread out across the counter. he's in a sub sandwich kind of mood]

You know, I always found the levels of high school psychology fascinating, however I can't say I wanted to go back there and actually study first hand. Reminds me why I wanted to get through high school so quickly when I was younger. Though I should probably be grateful that they didn't put me at the actual age that I was when I was in high school.

[a beat]

Though the alien invasion was a nice touch.

[Open, either over the journal or in person. Have at him.]

Well, LA was my world... though the wrong side of the country.

[a head tilt] Unless you mean actually going back home, home. I've missed out on that bit.

[a small smile] Maybe a good thing, too, since the way back usually seems pretty painful.

You have others here, then?

It's not so different from real life. [a pause] Normal life, I mean. This is certainly real. But back home, we never know how long people will be around, either.

The risk of having them just disappear or appear is clearer here, though.

Cruel and kind. Even forgotten... there are some people here who we'd never get to see, or who are dead back in their world. I don't know that I trust the castle to do anything intentionally good... but it's something.

[a small laugh, though it has that humorless edge to it] Like god.

Oh.

[there's hesitation before she speaks] I don't suppose I am. I don't... hate the idea of a god? But if there is one, I can't say I'd be really fond of him, either.

[a smile] We live in a castle that at turns teases and tortures us and you need to ask?

[then, still smiling, but more serious] I've seen a lot of amazing things, both here and back home. Some people would say that it's god, and that's fine. But if there really is a powerful, brilliant being out there, I have a hard time believing that even the wonder makes up for how many things he must be turning a blind eye to.

Faith is just the belief in something you cannot see or prove definitively. Religion isn't the only place it holds sway.

I've got a lot of faith, I think. Just not in a god.

But even if I'm not too happy with any all powerful God out there... I wouldn't mind running into some of the other gods. You know. Small g. Those other powers that control smaller pockets of wonder.

It seems like, if there was any place to run into beings like that, it'd be here.
