[There's a stitchpunk out by the duck pond, inspecting the muddy, trampled earth. The plumage hanging off the back of her birdskull helmet has a shock of color in it from the feathers from 6.]

Your were right, he left a trail. Looks like he was headed into the forests. Are there any other structures or buildings out there he might try to use?

I'll be out of the castle for a while. Although he's pretty self-sufficient, could you keep an eye on Ruffian for me? [Since the cat seems most adept at blowing her cover, and that's absolutely the last thing 7 needs!]

[She wasn't sure how she'd never thought of it before, but it finally occurred to her to wish for the castle to make her journal more size appropriate, and would now fit securely in her pocket.]

Well, I just had my birthday. [WHICH KINDA SUCKED, EXCEPT FOR THAT AWESOME PICTURE FROM 6.] Day to do whatever you want, spend time with your friends, they give you presents, that kinda thing. You know. Party.

A party, huh? [She sounds a little dubious. Not used to being a center of attention, this one.]

Gives us an excuse to spoil you for a day.

[A little startled sound, then a chuckle] Oh, well, when you put it that way, maybe I'll just stay out here!

[He snickers.] Aw, but we're already making you a present!

[This is met with silence. First the feathers from 6, now this ... she wasn't sure how many more generous surprises she could take.]

I - thank you. [Her voice is soft, a mite unsure] You didn't have to.

Hey, don't thank us till it actually works. Still working out the bugs in this thing.

Well, okay ... [So out of her element. There's an awkward pause.]

I didn't know it was your birthday ...

Didn't expect you to. I didn't tell anybody.

Well, happy birthday, even if I am a little late.

Well, thanks, 7! And hope yours is good too, even if it's not you actual birthday.

Thanks. I'll call it good if I can find this guy without him finding me.

Yeah. God forbid he does, but if you need help, I can be there.

...Well. I mean, yes. Doesn't mean I won't risk myself for a friend.

[There's a pause before she answers carefully, seriously] York, I ... I don't need that kind of pressure. Anything happens to me, I want to know you and Delta will be safe.

[Saying it, thinking it, imagining if that situation were to arise frightens her. After her trip home, she realizes she's not invincible, but then what would be the point of risking your life if those you were risking it for would be in far greater danger if you failed? She feels her confidence falter a little at the thought.]

[Just a sigh from York.]

I will not allow him to put himself at risk. Do not be concerned.

[She pauses a moment, choosing her words.] Listen, I'll be careful. I'm just tracking, I won't try to take him down myself. [That would be the least productive move ever, and she knows this] If anything happens, I will let you know.

It would be irresponsible of me not to do so.

Good. And it doesn't have to be him attacking you or anything - hell, if you get lost out there or something, we can set a beacon for you.

It's a good thing at least one of you can be responsible!

If I see anything out of the ordinary, you'll know.

Quiet, you. [But he sounds amused.]

[A small smile creeps back into her voice,] I will.

My friends are depending on it.
