Mm ... [well, actually that doesn't surprise her since he's been busy moping lately] Well, he's not very sociable so that's probably to be expected. He lives in the city, too, not the castle.

Yeah. A lot of people I know do, actually - another friend of mine has a shop in town that he lives out of. [glances out the window and points to a house that's a little taller than the shop buildings] See that house? That's his.

Nope. A lot of people hate living there, actually. And it's easier to avoid the 4 am explosions if you're not actually in the castle.

Get a job ... or sometimes I think people ask the castle for money. Or, if you offer to trade some kind of service for the landlord -- you know, protect them from the nutjobs in the castle, they give you a couple months free rent. That kind of thing.

Having all of us here must be a big inconvenience for the people here if they're willing to trade rent for protection.
