Might as well do this while I'm thinking about it. Hi, I'm Alec McDowell. Figured I'd say hey so that everyone knows I'm the sane one. To put it mildly. I'm sure Maxie's already mentioned my twin brother, Ben. So this is me introducing myself so that everyone knows who I am.

Huh. [seems kind of surprised that he knows her, but ... small Castle] So, uh ...

So why don't you tell me about yourself. How you met Maxie, that sort of thing.

Okay, uh ... [starts with how he met Max, since he otherwise fails at talking about himself in earnest] There was this bachelor auction a few months back -- maybe in, like, August? I don't really remember.

Anyway, a -- [hesitates] -- friend of mine signed me up for it, Max was there and she spotted me. I guess she thought I was you, 'cause she asked me if I'd always gone by Dean and a bunch've other weird questions, and we just got to talkin' after that.

[shrugs, and then] You? [quid pro quo, dude]

[Alec just listens as he's told about this auction and can't help but smirk at Max's bombardment of questions. But then he was getting asked how he met Max. That one was easy.]

Through Manticore. We were assigned as breeding partners. She was a pain in the ass and someone who at the time thought I was Ben.

[not to distract from talking about Max, but ... ] Yeah, about that -- how cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs is this guy?

[figures it's a better question than asking if by 'breeding partner' he meant they've slept together]

[On top of that it is a sore subject for Alec since he's been nailed for a few of Ben's antics. Okay... he might say a bit...]

Crazy as they come. Between Manticore and the world he's broken. I'm not even sure how he's going to handle meeting me. He doesn't know about me and I'm his own twin.

[is half tempted to go take a couple of shots at the guy. he'd be doing the Castle a favor, sounds like, and maybe it'll help him get back to where he thinks he should be in the wake of finding out that Sam dies. not that he's going to say that, though, and he takes care to keep that off of his face. the last thing he needs is a lecture from not!himself or him running to Max to tattle]

It isn't Ben's fault though. Manticore was our home. When they escaped back in '09... the world was too much for him to handle. All he knew was what Manticore had taught us all. To be what we were made to be.

I wasn't always. And don't get me wrong... Ordinaries aren't that easy to trust on our end because they were always trying to kill us. All because they didn't understand us. Some of us like Max had the help of friends. If not for Maxie I probably would still be Manticore's little golden boy.

And if not for Rachel. I didn't know what love was until I met her. Even if that didn't last after what Manticore did. But we learn. We adapt.

Rachel? Or, uh, is she off limits? [to talk about, he means -- knows he wouldn't be too happy if someone brought up Cassie]

Depends on what's bein' said, I guess. [wouldn't want people talking shit on his dad, even if John is -- was? hasn't seen his old man in awhile, now that he thinks about it -- here]

As long as nothing is said about her that shouldn't be then I don't care how a person talks about her.

She was special, understanding and had a heart of gold. But she was also naive to what went on out in the world and didn't know what her father had gotten himself into.

To be honest... I'm not sure what she was. She told me she loved me and at the time, I didn't know what to say to that. Love wasn't something we were programmed for. All I knew was that around Rachel Berrisford the world seemed to just stop.

I liked the girl, a lot. Hell, I probably would've dated her if I wasn't the cause for her death. That girl made me feel human.
