[first, there’s the panicked gasp of someone going from peacefully asleep to bolt-upright wide awake]

[and the soft, muffled chaos of bedcovers being dug through and thrown around]
It’s not- they took her away, stole her in the night, I can hear them- shhhhh, don't speak, don't make a sound, there are pieces but they're broken, everything's broken, she can't-
[-breaks off into something that's half a sob]
-find her, lost and floating everything's floating
[and then, finally, a moment of silence.]
[quiet, miserable:] I can see you.
