† 013 † husbands & sons
[Where has Mary been you might wonder? She's mostly been staying in John's room. For reasons that I'm sure anyone could guess. She checks on Dean, and more recently she's heard rumor that her other son is here as well once more. Mary's looking to bring the rumor from that status and get him to be a bit more social]
So I know Dean and John haven't given me more than an hour or so on my own in this place, but I thought at the very least I'd be able to find my other son the moment he got wind that his mother was here. Anyone seen him? Tall, tends to take on too much for his own good? Bit too much like his father in that respect I guess, answers to the name of Sam?

Uhh -- hi. Mom.
no subject
Well you sound tall, here I was just going off of what I'd heard from your father and Dean.

And -- I'd like to. See you, I mean.

Yeah, 1418 [a pause] you'll have to tell me about Ruby too, see all sort of things I don't know.
no subject
Sure, yeah. I'll be down in a little bit.

I'm so sorry...
no subject
It wasn't your fault.
no subject
Here, come inside, and tell me about yourself, about what you've done all this time, [knowing Mom smirk] about this Ruby girl.
no subject
Sure, yeah. [pause for a minute as he realizes they have twenty-five years to catch up on.] God, where I should I start?
no subject
Wherever you want, as close to the end or beginning as you like. It's all new to me anyway. You've got a captive audience here Sam.
no subject
I went to Stanford after high school. I got a full ride. [clearly proud of that, probably one of his biggest achievements.]
no subject
I'm so proud of you Sam. [and she meant it too, because she was. They'd been talking for a while and she figured that now might've been the better time for her to explain once more]
Before... I said I was sorry, and I am sorry I wasn't there for you, but it is my fault that I-- that I wasn't there for you. It's my fault that you grew up hunters. I never wanted that life for you... I never wanted you to be raised into it the way I was.
no subject
You -- you were a hunter?
no subject
John was a mechanic, that's his family business. Kept him out of it, actually preferred it. My father, Samuel... [a knowing glance] was a hunter. I grew up into it and wanted out. God I wanted out so bad I would've done anything to just have a real family, without those nights wondering if he'd come home from a hunt.
no subject
I think I know the feeling.
no subject
John told me about the night I died, and it's not anything I didn't realize once I saw him, but... [yeah it's harder to tell him. Harder for her to explain that she's the reason because it's him]
Ten years before I died... I made a deal. John says it's the way our family is, which I'm not sure is a good thing to be honest. The demon, the one that took me... took your father. Took my family first, but took John from me when I was shy of twenty. Right in front of me, and gave me a choice.
no subject
Winchester family trait. Always doing what we have to do to save someone else.
[then he thinks about the demon, and his demon blood and he frowns slightly, his jaw starting to clench slightly.]
The deal -- what did you make it for?
no subject
no subject
-- Do you know what happened? What he did to me?
no subject
Not exactly... I was so young, and it happened so fast. I didn't want to waste time asking for anything else other than John's life back. Just that in ten years he'd come to collect, and as long as he wasn't disturbed... as long as he was left alone no one would get hurt.
no subject
So he's just quiet, hands folded in front of his lips and weighing the pros and cons.]
no subject
It's going to be fine Sam. We're together here, and even if it's just for a little while, I'm glad I got the chance to see you all grown up.
no subject
[exhales, nods, lets it pass for what it was. she doesn't have to know. it wasn't her fault.]
Yeah, and I -- [looks over with a small smile.] -- I'm just glad I got to see you.
no subject
Me too Sam, me too. [subject change? for awkward instead of angsty]
So who's this Ruby girl?
no subject
She's a -- friend. From back home. She's, uh -- she's saved my ass a few times.
no subject
From what I've heard you and Dean got into quite a few scrapes, it's good you have people that care enough to do that. Most hunters I knew weren't very cooperative with each other.
no subject
Yeah, well -- she's never been one to consider herself normal.
