Has anyone tried bargaining with the castle, before?

I lost something that I can live without, but it's incredibly frustrating. Incredibly.

I doubt it'd be a good idea to ask the castle for anything when it's wigging out, anyway. What if our bodies were actually in pods out in a world that's been overtaken by super-genius apes and this has all been some kind of virtual reality dream, like we've been forced into a computer program? What if all of these dead dinosaurs and Grande Menaces were just glitches?

... Well. That's kind of a depressing theory.

Ah...

The fifth?! Already?! B-but I--

I...

Ah, I-it isn't that important. Just a day, after all.
[Soft, sheepish laughter] Does--does it even count here?

I-it's a little hard to imagine I'm another year--

[A pause as she glances at her desk and the open journal]

E-ehh? Why are you--!

[These are the frantic sounds of someone scribbling a filter as well as everything that was recorded into illegibility.]

[the journal falls open with a light crash] --no, watch out for that!

[commence tiny but furious sounds of yapping and angry mewing] It's not nice to chase-- [sounds of kibble being flipped out of a food bowl and onto the floor]

Hallie! Stop chasing him. [yapyapyap] ...I said stop.

[....yapping pauses. Peace settles for a moment, until a very mischievous kitten-hiss, and then the whole thing starts over again]

Ral! That's not...!  [sighs]

[she knew the Castle was going crazy, but she was content to hide from it and wallow in her own problems. Like any good budding alcoholic, Faye was at the bar, giving DeathMatch some business in these trying times.]

...wonder if it's gonna fill the whole place up with junk. We'll have to move out soon, head to the hills like pioneers. Push us right out of our sad comfy little lives here.

[muffled as she buries her face down on her arms]

'Welcome home' ...bullshit.

Huh. This thing has been quiet lately. We all too busy theorising on what the castle's up to with all this stuff lately?

...Can't blame anybody.

Has anyone seen a sleeveless white shirt? It has a blue cross in the front. It's one of my favorite shirts so I'd love it back.

[ Naoto is sneaking through the halls of the castle, her coat wrapped tightly around herself. She's carrying her journal in her pocket because it makes her feel safe, but she hasn't realized that it can pick up her words without her speaking directly to it. ]

This is so embarrassing... I understand now why it was such a well-paying job offer.

[ She dodges around a corner, releasing the edge of her coat to clutch at the wall and look for passers-by. The maid costume she has on underneath pokes out. ]

[ ooc: i am humiliating naoto for being absent for so long :'3;;; she's trying to get outside to go to work. um, catch her? heh <3 ]

So, hey, guys. In honor of the new year, I've decided that we're having a sale at the Wild Kat today. Buy one latte, get the second free!

If you mention the discount code "porn star" at the register, you get an additional 69% off.

[River's in the lobby, today. Things keep showing up, old things, fragments of the past broken off and gotten lost. Indigestion. She's curled up on the couch - the books were going away, the ghosts stole them and wouldn't put the words back, just letters now - watching. Maybe people. Maybe not, even if her gaze lands on someone.

She's wrapped in a coat, big enough and bright enough to almost swallow her whole, because it's theirs and that's important. Numbers are important. They're a system for measure quantities, and quantifying is important.

Half of an equation is scribbled on her journal page, but it's unfinished - struck by ennui, or maybe lost in its own importance. Lost in the letters and forgot how to be.

She's hiding in plain sight (maybe). If you have very good eyes, you might be able to see her.]

[Despite the weird things going down and listening to a lot of people be crude all afternoon, Clark's in a general good mood. While he doesn't like the implications of being here forever, he doesn't feel particularly threatened –– life goes on without him, right?

So there he is in the snow, with his dogs. Shelby's nosing around the snow, and Krypto's running around with a tree trunk in his mouth. Yes, a whole tree trunk. He occasionally puts it down to bark his fool head off.]

Hey. [whistle] Krypto, shhh. The whole castle can probably hear you. And put that down before you break something.

[and then, written:]

I'm two for two on years where I've gotten a dog for Christmas from the castle. If this "here forever" thing is true, I'm not looking forward to running my own kennel.

[At first, just the noise of Rin drumming her fingers absently against the page as she formulates her thoughts. This goes on for a minute or two before she speaks.]

So... I don't think I understand enough about the way the time stream works here.

I mean, while we're here - it doesn't matter how long we're here, right? That's generally accepted as an established fact. When you leave you go home, back to the moment you left, and you forget everything and it's like no time has passed at all. We don't even grow while we're here.

So if we're really... here forever, then what does that mean? Does that change? Is there some paradox that explains this that I'm escaping? Does time stop at home forever, or do we disappear there, or does the castle replace that empty space with a clone, or have we actually been copies of our "real" selves from the beginning and we don't know it, we just get updated occasionally?

Or is the castle just - fucking with us again?

Does somebody understand this better than I do? I could use the help.

Okie.  If anyone needs me, I'll be in the barn, far away from the castle, with Lida and my metal scraps.  I've seen enough.... triangle hats, stale cake, and everything for my lifetime.

Sp-Spira's never had anything this scary!  I might throw away this stupid journal, while I'm at it... it might help.  [ There is a soft neigh as Rikku whimpers ]  Will someone please come down when the castle is normal?  Pretty please?
[identity profile] shrt-temper.livejournal.com
If the castle wants us to think of this as home ... why remind us of everything that would make us feel as though it isn't?

There should be an order to this. Not finding one. No pattern. Not even a set amount of time between occurrences, as usual.

Beginning to think that whatever rots might finally be broken, somehow. ... Dangerous thought.

Normally, I'm not exactly one for planning things out, but it seems to me like there's a distinct lack of ways to make sure things end up right side right other than hold on to your trousers and hope all ends for the best and whatever the castle's thrown at us doesn't last long.

I'm thinking it might be a good idea to have a few contingency plans for when things do go belly up as they most certainly will, even if it's not this week or next week or even this month. A few people have mentioned going out into the Dead Zone when things get bad... do we have any way of making sure whoever wants or needs to get there actually gets there and is protected there?

It's like rule number one when traveling with me: no wandering off. It's for your own good so you don't run off and do something daft like... I don't know. Get possessed by an incredibly vain woman or almost get eaten by a giant spider or end up being on the bad side of a sentient sun.

I think we need a place set up where people can go and where they can know they'll be safe. I'd offer my TARDIS as one such place, but according to other people, the castle has a nasty little habit of making them useless in times of dire crises. Hence the dictation. If anyone has any ideas on where something like this could be set up and how we could pull it off without this place getting its pants in a twist and turning it into dust... I'd love to hear it and tweak it and make it real instead of just a possibility. I don't want to see people get hurt.

About the Archive

"Paradisa Lost" is the archive of what the journals contained between December 1st, 2006 and January 10th, 2012. On that final day, Paradisa issued new journals, so that the residents could fill them up again. While there are still residents around who have old journals, we have chosen to preserve the old journals here for muns' reference and history.

"Lost" in the title refers to both the old journals that the residents once kept, and also to our move to Dreamwidth from the original Livejournal community, where Paradisa started. It is a fresh start for muns, as well as for the characters.
