If hearing another voice nearby had surprised her (which, for the record, it did), she didn't show it. Her eyes were fixed on some unknown spot in the distance as she took another drag off of that cigarette, giving off the appearance that maybe she hadn't even known anyone else was there at all. That she'd been too distracted to notice that sort of thing.

But, after an almost impossibly long moment of silence, there was evidence to suggest otherwise.
