[Out in the courtyard, Rose is cleaning out her backpack from the expedition. It's sopping wet and covered in mud and dirt – two main reasons she decided not to do this indoors – but neither of those things hold a candle to what happens when she turns it upside down.]

Not precisely what I was hoping to get out of my first expedition, though I suppose it could be worse. We could be shaking venomous snakes out of our packs instead. Or manure.
