[there's some shuffle as the journal is pushed open, and after a minute of considering what to say, Sweets speaks]

I was reminded not too long ago [read: Halloween] that I promised someone [read: Mindy] a John Wayne movie marathon. I fully intend to follow through sometime this month, but I was wondering if there was anyone else who might be interested?

I know that some people don't know who John Wayne is, or ... possibly even what movies are, so it could even be considered a cultural event. You can see a piece of something from our worlds that you wouldn't normally see in yours. Granted, these are old western films, so they don't necessarily have the best track record in terms of realism -- that wasn't really what they were for -- or ... matters of race and gender, but they're still rather enjoyable in their own right.

My point being, I thought it would be a good community building exercise. I'll even bring popcorn.

I have to ask how many movies did he make after 1942? [Because he couldn't watch them at the base and also at this point it's safe to assume everyone is from the future.]

He had a career all the way into the seventies. He's probably one of the most beloved actors in Hollywood.
