Perhaps, but training your ability to respond consciously to your desire to phase or not is still a good idea. I had to do much the same when I was your age. Teaching myself the structure of the human mind, and human memories, so that I wouldn't inadvertently do something I hadn't meant to when inside another's mind. You might also benefit from increasing your physical endurance, teaching yourself to hold your breath for as long as possible.

Though it's important to refine the use of our abilities through repeated and creative use, there are nevertheless other ways we can train ourselves, and I believe it's important we do so.
